Why Would Putin Invade Ukraine?

Our perspective on Russian strongman Vladimir Putin could generally be summed-up as, “He’s a bad guy, but he’s not crazy.”

So, if he’s not crazy, why would he invade Ukraine, a non-threatening bordering country that he has already hamstrung economically by annexing its important Black Sea port on the Crimean Peninsula and sparking a separatist rebellion in the Donbas industrial and energy region?

Our friends at the Conservative Tree House think the whole “imminent invasion” narrative is a complete hoax perpetrated by the Biden regime to tee-up a remake of Joe Biden’s image from the idiot who has been wrong on every foreign policy issue for the past 50-years and bumbled the withdrawal from Afghanistan into a Nobel Prize winning peacemaker.

In a Sunday, February 20, 2022 post, “Ron Klain Organizes a Stunning, Massive and Magnificent Biden-Putin Peace Summit Certain to Bring Nobel Peace Nomination,” Sundance laid out his case. Here are some key points from the post making the case that this “imminent invasion” narrative is all about remaking Biden’s image:

To understand why there has been so much escalating rhetoric about Russia going to invade Ukraine at any moment, you must realize the intent. The motives of the crisis narrative are crystal clear.

Everything about the Russia invasion of Ukraine has to be increasingly imminent, horrible and loomingly catastrophic for the planet, so that when it doesn’t happen the glorious victory for Dear Leader Biden can be proclaimed and amplified from the mountaintops.

Russia has absolutely no plan to invade Ukraine and doesn’t even have a role in this theatrical production from the White House.

The way the game is played; and believe me, everything about this is a game; they must take the manufactured crisis to the brink of thermonuclear war, so that Joe Biden can save the world and be seen as this legendary diplomat.

Sundance goes on to put this into a tighter domestic political context:

With Dear Leader’s State of the Union speech less than two weeks away, the urgency of the meeting is important.

Yes, all of this…. every single part… all of it… is a complete manufactured fraud for domestic and international political consumption.

The U.S. intelligence community, White House, State Dept and media are all playing a role to give Joe Biden a win on the international stage, using a crisis that is entirely made up.

There’s a lot that makes sense in this analysis, even without looking at it from Putin’s perspective.

Going on the assumption that Putin is a bad dude, but not crazy, he doesn’t need to invade Ukraine to neutralize the country or even return it to the Russian orbit as a de facto satellite, like Belarus.

Russian separatists already occupy Ukraine’s most important economic region, the industrial and energy rich Donbas. Russian-leaning elements in the rest of the country are emboldened. In fact, a fight broke out live on national TV when a pro-Russian politician refused to condemn Putin was attacked and put in a headlock by a Ukrainian journalist also appearing on the show.

The shocking brawl broke out between lawmaker Nestor Shufrych from the pro-Russian party Opposition Platform - For Life, and journalist Yuriy Butusov. Shufrych was left bloodied after Butusov walked up to him and hit him in the face, and then put him in a headlock.

Why go to the expense of a military attack when you can undermine the country and elect a pro-Russian government and waltz right in?

And thanks to Biden’s constant alarmism, Ukraine’s economy has tanked. Foreigners and foreign investment are fleeing the country, so the country is certainly ripe for a change in government, to be achieved with or without Russian active measures.

If thwarting Putin is in our national interest, is it possible that a status quo stalemate, much like the one in Korea, is the best we can do militarily and politically, and building up a democratic and economically viable Ukraine is the “victory” that is most achievable and most in our national interest?

From our perspective the DC war hawks, and their hapless tool Joe Biden, haven’t answered any of the most important questions necessary to justify American military involvement in Ukraine, and most importantly, they haven’t defined for the American people what “victory” in Ukraine looks like.

The toll-free Capitol Switchboard is (1-866-220-0044), call your Senators and Representative today to tell them you oppose sending American troops to Ukraine. Instead of defending Ukraine’s border you want American troops to defend OUR border.
