Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene files articles of impeachment against Merrick Garland

FBI agents from the agency’s Washington Field Office on Monday raided former President

Donald Trump's Florida estate in search of allegedly "classified" documents the former president may have removed from the White House.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene on Friday announced that she had filed articles of impeachment against Attorney General Merrick Garland who personally approved the FBI's Monday raid on former President Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida.

Greene’s resolution claims that the attorney general’s “personal approval to seek a search warrant for the raid on the home of the 45th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, constitutes a blatant attempt to persecute a political opponent.”

According to reporting by The Hill, the warrant showed that the FBI secured classified materials that were taken to Mar-a-Lago and suggests the former president is being investigated for possible violations of the Espionage Act.

United Press International reported Rep. Taylor Greene said the search shows that Garland, a former Supreme Court candidate, was "unfit" to hold the attorney general's office.

"Attorney General Garland, by such conduct, has demonstrated that he will remain a threat to the justice system of the United States of America if allowed to remain in office, and has acted in a manner grossly incompatible with democracy, self-governance, and the rule of law," the articles filed by Greene said.

Greene and many of her fellow Republicans have accused the Justice Department of going after Trump for political reasons with many anticipating that he will make another run for the White House in 2024 against President Joe Biden.

Trump spokesperson Taylor Budowich called the search "outrageous" in a statement on Friday, reported by UPI, and described it as a "botched raid where they seized the president's picture books, a 'handwritten note,' and declassified documents."

Rep. Taylor Greene’s resolution follows hard on the heels of a “Memo for the Movement” in which the leaders of the conservative movement participating in the Conservative Action Project called for the impeachment of Attorney General Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray:

Under the leadership of Garland and Wray, the DOJ and FBI have breached the public trust. This blatant politicization of the federal justice system is a dangerous escalation without precedent, and incompatible with the United States Constitution. To ensure this state sponsored political harassment stops – and to send a message to all that such actions are intolerable in our self-government – Merrick Garland and Christopher Wray must be impeached and removed from office.

The United States Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121 we urge ConservativeHQ readers and friends to call their Representative and Senators to demand they join Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s resolution of impeachment against Attorney General Merrick Garland.
