Joe Biden isn’t even president-elect yet and the Deep State is already implementing his anti-
gun and anti-Second Amendment agenda.
Ammoland Shooting Sports News reports that federal agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) have raided the headquarters of Polymer80, one of the largest manufacturers of homemade firearm accessories. You might have heard an anti-gunner refer to a completed homemade firearm as a “ghost gun.” Anti-gunners have been advocating for a ban on homemade firearms for years, even recently appealing to the Trump Administration.
According to the Ammoland Shooting Sports News report, the ATF, in numerous letters to Polymer80, held that their 80% receivers did not require a manufacturer's license, the unconstitutional Pittman-Robertson tax, a serial number, or a NICS check before purchase.
Once again, much as it did with bump stocks, the ATF appears to be reversing its longstanding interpretive guidance and is arbitrarily redefining a crucial term to enact a gun ban.
Ammoland reports the ATF has shown up at other companies that sell other kits that include 80% part kits, barrels, and slides that are not Polymer80. AmmoLand News says its sources inside the ATF say that the agency is now considering 80% kits with all the parts needed to finish a pistol as a firearm. Apparently, the ATF now considers an 80% lower receiver sold with a parts kit — such as the one offered by Polymer80 as a Buy Build Shoot Kit — to be a firearm requiring a background check.
None of the companies had any warning on the change to ATF’s regulations before actual agents showed up making attempts to retrieve customer information.
It should surprise no one that the ATF’s rogue actions have coincided with the stolen election that has positioned anti-gun radicals Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to become President and Vice President.
Harris is a cosponsor of The Untraceable Firearms Act of 2020 which would regulate parts and materials commonly used in hobby gun-making. A similar bill was proposed in 2018 by Sen. Richard “Danang Dick” Blumenthal (D-Conn.), who is leading a group of 15 senators co-sponsoring a renewed push that comes as the COVID-19 pandemic has inspired a surge in demand for guns and for hobby gun-making kits.
Under the proposed legislation, the parts would be reclassified as firearms and sellers would be forced to include serial numbers. People who buy the components would also be subject to the same background checks as those who buy completed firearms. In addition, the bill would ban guns that are modified to pass through metal detectors.
Back in July Democrats wrote to the ATF claiming, "The widespread availability and use of ghost guns undermines gun safety laws and poses a danger to our communities." The letter—led by Representatives Jerrold Nadler, the House Judiciary Committee chairman, and Karen Bass, chairwoman of a crime subcommittee—stated. "Because the proliferation of ghost guns is a serious problem, we write to request...information and documentation to probe how the ATF is monitoring, overseeing, and regulating the sale of ghost gun kits and unfinished frames and receivers, amid the COVID-19 pandemic."
Never mind that it is already illegal for a “prohibited person” to possess a gun, whether purchased, gifted or assembled from parts, so the proposed legislation saddles firearms parts manufacturers with new regulatory costs while burdening law-abiding citizens with another layer of bureaucracy, all in the name of what amounts to making kits doubly illegal for prohibited persons to own.
We agree with Aidan Johnston, Director of Federal Affairs for Gun Owners of America, this is more than cooperating with a transition team. ATF Acting Director Lombardo has begun advancing the Biden-Harris gun control agenda during the Trump Administration!
