In the wake of Hamas and Palestinian Authority-Fatah-led attacks on Israelis the Biden Administration has made the predictable decision to back the Palestinians against the
Israelis. With Hamas raining rockets on Israeli civilians this is the equivalent of backing Hitler against Bambi.
But that’s the way Democrats have rolled for decades as the party supported by the majority of America’s Jewish voters continues to harbor America’s most virulent anti-Semites and tilt toward those who would happily make a new Holocaust in the Jewish homeland.
The roots of the violence of the past week are not hard to figure out. And they are not to be found in the obscure property disputes and arguments over who can access the Temple Mount when – they are found in the Palestinian intuition about how Biden and company will respond to renewed violence between Arabs and Israelis, and their recognition that they have a claque of especially vicious anti-Semitic supporters in the Democratic Party who will be useful in pushing Biden to support them.
This would not, and did not work when Donald Trump was President, but with Biden determined to reverse everything President Donald Trump did, especially his commitments to Israel, the Palestinians recognize their moment has arrived.
And why wouldn’t they?
With Democrat politicians like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Elizabeth Warren, calling Israeli conduct “abhorrent,” and the Biden administration making what Jonathan S. Tobin of the New York Post called “moral-equivalence noises” their violence is being rewarded.
Our friend Rabbi Spero, president of Conference of Jewish Affairs, offered this insightful analysis of the effect of Democrat “moral-equivalence noises” in a statement issued Monday: “It is particularly concerning that, as Israel is under attack, back here in the United States, the anti-Israel fools of ‘The Squad’ in Congress -- Reps. Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, Ayanna Pressley, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez -- are once again questioning U.S. aid to Israel. We believe it is inappropriate and dangerous for United States Congress-women to indicate – directly or indirectly -- support for Arab terrorism against Israel at this or any other time. The Biden State Department and Senator Elizabeth Warren are likewise threatening peace by their recent irresponsible statements that embolden both Hamas and the Arab rioters in Jerusalem.”
But that’s not the worst of what’s emanating from Democrats and the American Left.
Far Left Muslim House Democrats Andre Carson, Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar were quick to claim that moral equivalence for the Palestinian terrorists. "Many will tell you Israel has a right to defend itself, to safety and security, but are silent on whether Palestinians have those rights too," Omar tweeted. "Until we can defend the rights of Palestinians just as we do Israelis, we have no leg to stand on when it comes to justice or peace."
And the Washington Free Beacon reported, IfNotNow, a progressive advocacy group that claims its membership is primarily Jewish, took to Twitter on Saturday to promote video footage of violent Palestinian rioters in Jerusalem.
"Incredible, inspiring images of Palestinian resistance coming out of Jerusalem tonight," IfNotNow said in a since-deleted tweet. "American Jews are with you." The tweet included video footage of Palestinians yelling in Arabic for Tel Aviv to be bombed.
There is no moral equivalence between Israelis keeping order on the Temple Mount, where Muslims have turned religious edifices into weapons caches and hideaways for terrorists, or Israelis using the rule of law to sort out 70-year-old property disputes arising from the Arab effort to exterminate the nascent Jewish state and its Jewish citizens.
We join Rabbi Spero in believing it is time for the Biden Administration to step up and enunciate a clear pro-Israel policy, as well as to follow through on implementing the Abraham Accords peace initiatives. Biden’s stated desire to re-start the ‘Iran Deal,’ the JCPOA, is strengthening terrorist-supporting Iran and emboldening anti-Israel jihadists in the region.Islamist terrorists with territorial ambitions against Israel are noticing the weak and confused policies coming out of the current White House and are taking advantage of that appeasement by Biden.
