Trump’s Ohio Rally: MAGA Must Defeat RINO Rep. Anthony Gonzalez
From our perspective the most important takeaway from former President Trump’s weekend rally in Wellington, Ohio was his endorsement of Max Miller for Congress and his remarks
rallying the MAGA Movement to defeat RINOs and the old GOP establishment in the upcoming 2022 Republican Primary Elections.
A particular focus of the former President’s remarks at the rally was incumbent alleged Republican Rep. Anthony Gonzalez, who voted to impeach Donald Trump for his non-role in the January 6 Capitol riot.
Former President Trump took a few minutes of his speech to remind voters of Gonzalez's impeachment vote, and boost Max Miller, a former White House aide who is challenging the congressman in the district's Republican primary next year.
"Max's opponent is a guy named Anthony Gonzalez, who's bad news. He's a grandstanding RINO, not respected in DC, who voted for the unhinged, unconstitutional illegal impeachment witch hunt," Trump said according to the CNN transcript, mocking Gonzalez for, as he claimed, regularly calling the White House to fly on Air Force One when Trump would come to Ohio. "He's a sellout, he's a fake Republican, and a disgrace to your state, I will tell you that."
Miller, who spoke before Trump, heralded the former President -- "Love that guy," he proclaimed -- and argued that Gonzalez's vote is a "betrayal he can never turn back from and he should have to answer that day, after day, after day."
Max Miller was certainly right about the blot of Gonzalez’s betrayal – but there are more reasons than that to defeat the incumbent RINO.
What Gonzalez and others of his ilk, such as Rep. Liz Cheney, don’t seem to understand is the point Carolyn Kovac, a 77-year-old from Jackson Township who backed Gonzalez in 2020, made in an interview she gave to CNN, "He turned on Trump, so he turned on me when he did that," she said.
And in yet another proof of CHQ Chairman Richard Viguerie’s adage that “who you walk with tells me who you are” Gonzalez recently started a joint fundraising committee with Cheney, who lost her leadership role in the House because of her betrayal of MAGA principles. A Gonzalez aide told CNN the committee was created because "some donors wanted to write checks to both of them" and the committee makes it easier to do that.
Gonzalez’s strategy seems to be to assume that the average Ohioan is dumb enough to forget what he did between now and Primary Election Day, but MAGA Movement activists are unlikely to let that happen. Gonzalez's vote in favor of impeachment led to his being censured by the Medina County GOP along with calls for his resignation from the Strongsville GOP. Most recently, a reminder to voters about who Gonzalez really is came when the Ohio Republican Party's central committee censured Gonzalez for the vote, calling on the congressman to resign his post.
From our vantage point of talking to conservatives from all over America, it wasn’t so much the personal betrayal of Donald Trump, who clearly had no role in what transpired at the Capitol, it is Gonzalez’s betrayal of the MAGA Movement that sticks in the craw of conservatives across the country and that is what is powering the Third Wave MAGA Revolt against him and the rest of DC’s Republican Uniparty denizens.
For those CHQ readers who have yet to hear about his campaign, Max Miller grew up in Northeast Ohio and graduated from Cleveland State University. and currently serves on the board of trustees for the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. He says his campaign will focus on combating the ongoing opioid epidemic and helping middle class workers who were "abandoned...in favor of cheap, exploitative foreign labor."
"Max Miller is a wonderful person who did a great job at the White House and will be a fantastic Congressman," Trump said in a statement endorsing Max Miller. "He is a Marine Veteran, a son of Ohio, and a true PATRIOT. Current Rep. Anthony Gonzalez should not be representing the people of the 16th district because he does not represent their interest or their heart."
We agree with former President Trump’s assessment of Rep. Anthony Gonzalez, he’s a grandstander who has done nothing to advance the interests of the MAGA Movement and little to serve the forgotten men and women of Northeast Ohio. Max Miller has quickly demonstrated he understands both and for that has earned our support. To learn more about Max Miller or to support his candidacy go to https://www.votemaxmiller.com/
