Hands Up, Don't Nuke

After watching Joe Biden and Democrats continue to insist that curbing the rights

guaranteed by the Second Amendment is key to tamping down a "staggering" surge of crime across the U.S. I was planning on writing another call to conservatives to contact their Senators to oppose Biden’s gun control legislation and David Chipman, his nominee to head the ATF. (The toll-free Capitol Switchboard is (1-866-220-0044) and you can do both through quick calls to your Senators.)

But then I came to this section of the Fox News report on Biden’s presser:

"Talk to most responsible gun owners they'll tell you there's no possible justification for having 100 rounds in a magazine," Biden said.

Biden also took aim at an argument used by Second Amendment advocates, that the right to self-defense is also needed to protect against potential government tyranny.

"Those who say the blood of Patriots, you know, and all the stuff about how we’re gonna have to move against the government," Biden said. "If you think you need to have weapons to take on the government, you need F-15s and maybe some nuclear weapons."

What is it with Democrats threatening to turn the military, including nuclear weapons, against American citizens?

Remember when California Democrat and human cringe tornado Rep. Eric Swalwell said much the same thing?

As Becket Adams recounted the incident for an op-ed in the Washington Examiner, in November 2018, the California congressman defended his support for an “assault weapon” buy back program, arguing that it would be a necessary step in a broader effort to ban “military-style semi-automatic assault weapons.”

Enacting the program, he argued, would reduce the number of firearm-related deaths in the United States. The congressman and soon-to-be-one-time 2020 Democratic candidate also expressed support for prosecuting gun owners who refuse to comply with the theoretical buyback program. This prompted one Twitter user, Joe Biggs, to grouse, “So basically [Swalwell] wants a war. Because that’s what you would get. You’re outta your f--king mind if you think I’ll give up my rights and give the gov all the power.”

Rather than address Biggs’ fear, or argue that his concerns are overblown, Swalwell reminded the dissenter that the U.S. government has nuclear warheads and that, if push comes to shove, they can be used on noncompliant citizens. The congressman responded: “And it would be a short war my friend. The government has nukes. Too many of them. But they’re legit. I’m sure if we talked we could find common ground to protect our families and communities.”

The notion that the United States would nuke itself, even under a Biden or Swalwell dictatorship, is absurd on its face – the last U.S. nuclear test was in 1992 and the last use of a nuclear weapon against a military opponent by any nation was our attack on Nagasaki, Japan on August 9, 1945.

Not even the collapse of the Soviet Union, as amoral a dictatorship as ever existed, could prompt the dictators to deploy a nuclear weapon against their domestic opponents.

But let’s not ignore the threat implicit in their talk of jet fighters and nuclear weapons; what Biden and Swalwell were really saying was if you oppose us, you’re dead.

Threats of death are the ultimate admission of the illegitimacy of a dictatorship. But there’s another more subtle failure by Biden and Swalwell and like-minded Democrats on display here, and that is their complete and utter failure to understand history and how the real insurrection they are inciting will play out.

Let’s remember back to 1989 and the overthrow of Nicolae Ceaușescu the Communist dictator of Romania.

Ceaușescu had command of a large army equipped with modern tanks and jet fighters and a ruthless and brutal secret security force – all thoroughly indoctrinated in Communist ideology and his own weird cult of personality – he was opposed first by unarmed civilians who felt they had nothing left to lose, and later by elements of the army who were repulsed by orders to slaughter their fellow countrymen.

In the end, Ceaușescu’s jet fighters and tanks couldn’t save him as he tried to escape the wrath of his outgunned subjects, who decided they had finally had enough, and he and his wife were executed by firing squad after a brief trial on Christmas Day, 1989.

When would be dictators like Joe Biden and Eric Swalwell threaten Americans with jet fighters and nuclear weapons it’s not a show of strength – it’s proof they don’t understand that people with nothing left to lose won’t fear them, and that they haven’t learned anything from the overthrow of Nicolae Ceaușescu.
