Giving Thanks In A Time Of Adversity

In the days after the 2016 election of President Donald Trump, and the decisive defeat of

Hillary Clinton and her Far-Left anti-constitutional agenda, we received a flurry of emails to the effect of “Thank goodness, America is saved.”

At the time we said we wished we could share that sentiment, but to quote Winston Churchill, “Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.”

Defeating Hillary Clinton did not defeat the plans of the Progressive Left and their fellow travelers in the Wall Street – Washington – Silicon Valley Axis; it merely defeated one vehicle by which they aimed to accomplish their goals.

The election of Donald Trump was a beginning, not the end, of a great struggle to reestablish constitutional government in America and to defeat the anti-constitutional forces of Progressivism, that for the past four decades have run largely unchecked through the government and the major cultural, religious and academic institutions of this country.

Electing Donald Trump gave limited government constitutional conservatives the opportunity, not the guarantee, that we could roll back the damage Progressivism has done to our culture and national fiber. So, as we survey the aftermath of the 2020 election, with the apparent loss of the White House through massive election fraud heavy on our hearts, for what do we give thanks?

First, and foremost we can and should give thanks for the rise of a new and great political movement – the conservative-populist MAGA Movement.

And, while there is no doubt the MAGA Movement has been heavily reliant on the outsized personality of Donald Trump for energy and inspiration, it has raised up a host of new grassroots leaders and successful candidates for public office.

Grassroots activism was remade, with real spontaneous viral activism, such as the MAGA drag the interstate group that turned out 30,000 cars for a cruise through South Florida and the organizers of the Trump boat parades that brought together yacht owners, fishermen and pontoon boat cruisers to support their President.

Winners such as MAGA Movement rock star and Second Amendment activist Lauren Boebert, who won election to Congress in Colorado’s Third District, Marjorie Taylor Greene, who won election to Congress in Georgia’s 14th District, and African Americans Byron Donalds, who won election to Congress in Florida’s 19th District and Burgess Owens, who won in Utah’s Fourth District. And in Florida's 26th and 27th Districts in South Florida, MAGA Republicans Carlos Gimenez, the Mayor of Miami-Dade County, and Maria Elvira Salazar were able to unseat freshmen Democrats Debbie Murcarsel-Powell and Donna Shalala, demonstrating that down-ballot the MAGA Movement is strong and diverse.

Smoking out the enemies within was never going to happen without Donald Trump on the ballot, so while it may seem a perverse blessing, we can and should give thanks for the winnowing out of many "corporate conservatives" and grifters who have made careers out of advocating for various conservative policies and ideas, but couldn’t bring themselves to get behind Donald Trump even as he fought for and enacted the policies they claimed to support. They revealed themselves as fakes and destroyed their credibility, while some may hang on zombie-like as Twitter commentators, their hold on any mass conservative support has diminished to near nil.

Finally, while it always better to win, we can be thankful for having our eyes opened to the battle before us. Too many national conservative leaders hung up their spurs and checked out for three years while Donald Trump battled on, often virtually alone, against the Deep State. The 2020 election was a wake-up call for the conservative movement that it is time to either reenergize the old conservative organizations or they will wither and be replaced with new ones organized to capture the energy of the MAGA Movement.

If the 2020 election showed us anything, it revealed a Democratic Party totally owned by the radical Left and deeply poisoned by hatred for America’s Judeo-Christian cultural roots. And we also had proven once and for all how deeply corrupted by Leftwing careerism the federal government has become and how ineffective Capitol Hill Republicans are at fighting it. So, let’s be thankful that the blinders are off, and millions of Americans now know the enemy and are ready to be fully engaged in the fight thanks to Donald Trump and the MAGA Movement.
