Conservative Action Project Leaders Support President Trump’s Efforts to Hold Big Tech Accountable

The leaders of the Conservative Action Project yesterday issued the following letter in

support of President Trump’s efforts to rein-in Big Tech and end its discriminatory and monopolistic practices.

December 10, 2020

Washington, DC

Conservatives support President Trump’s efforts to hold Big Tech accountable in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

As collective gatekeepers of the virtual town square, the major Big Tech companies exercise unprecedented control over speech, information gathering, market access, and independent thought. Their actions leading up to and after the 2020 election suppressed news stories critical of Joe Biden, flagged and censored tweets and posts by the President of the United States, his staff and political appointees, and civic leaders, and continue to distort the flow of information to the American public.

These companies benefit from an implicit financial subsidy in the form of a provision of law known as Sec. 230, which immunizes platforms from liability for content posted by their users, and likewise protects them from recourse for their content moderation policies.

We support President Trump’s attempts to hold these companies accountable. Despite ample evidence of these corporations abusing their power, Congress has failed to act. If they likewise refuse to address this issue in the NDAA, we support President Trump’s threat to veto the legislation.
