Ashli Babbitt’s Mom: Who killed my child?

Our friends at National File interviewed Michelle Witthoeft, the mother of Ashli Babbitt, moments before she spoke at the TPUSA Chapter Leadership Summit in Phoenix, Arizona

where she was invited to speak by principled limited government constitutional conservative Rep. Paul Gosar.

Rep. Paul Gosar introduced Ms. Witthoeft, the mother of Ashli Babbitt, the unarmed, peaceful protester who was shot at point blank range by a still unnamed Capitol Hill police officer during the mostly peaceful Capitol Hill protests on January 6, 2021. Ms. Witthoeft received a massive round of applause as she and a family friend held signs commemorating her slain daughter at the TPUSA Chapter Leadership Summit in Phoenix, Arizona.

“I’m Ashli Babbitt’s mom, I’ve been invited by Congressman Gosar to speak at the election integrity rally for Donald Trump,” said Witthoeft. “My daughter died for this cause, there are still political prisoners being held in DC jail under horrible conditions as a result of this. They were protesting our American birthright to go and redress their government because everybody in this country knows that this is a stolen election. So, I’m here to be my daughter’s voice because it has been silenced.”

Ms. Witthoeft’s Twitter account prominently asks, “Who killed my child?”

Ms. Witthoeft was joined by a family friend, who told National File, “I’m here for Justice for Ashli, because nobody should die when they go to the Capitol. We need to change protocols, or we need to figure out different transparency.” She added, “We are also for the political prisoners who are being held. They need to be processed, their due process, so they can get out and go on with their lives. It’s ridiculous that they’ve been in jail for 7 months for trespassing. Justice for Ashli is justice for all.”

When asked what she wanted to hear from President Donald Trump during his speech to the rally, Ms. Witthoeft told National File, “I want to hear the President say that we’re moving forward positive, that we’re taking back the country, because I don’t feel like – I feel like when we woke up on January 7th, it was a different country, and I want that country back.”

The Babbitt family friend added, “We need to be able to speak freely.. We need to come together and unite for justice.” She added, “This, political prisoners being held? We need to all unite because this is wrong. What happened on January 6, what happened to the people, is wrong.” Both women also thanked Rep. Paul Gosar, who has championed the effort to identify Ashli Babbitt’s killer. “Thank you Congressman Gosar for being the original champion and leading the way and being brave enough to go against the sea of people who don’t want to hear what you have to say. Thank you.”

Since her death at the hands of a Capitol Hill police officer, Ashli Babbitt’s death has become a lightning rod issue for those calling for transparent investigations into potential federal involvement into January 6, and a key issue for Republicans who believe the 2020 election was stolen from President Donald Trump through credible reports of widespread voter fraud.

Independent journalist Tayler Hansen identified Babbitt’s killer as Capitol Hill Police Lieutenant Michael Leroy Byrd. Then, the Capitol Hill Sergeant At Arms seemed to accidentally confirm this while testifying in the House of Representatives. “We’re in close contact. The situation where you discussed where officer Byrd was at the door when Ms. Babbitt was shot. It was our sergeant at arms employee who rendered aid to her,” said Blodgett.

You can watch the video through Tayler Hansen’s Twitter feed here at https://twitter.com/TaylerUSA/status/1411381968567160840

Lt. Byrd was well-known on Capitol Hill as one of the several Capitol Police officers who left their service arms in the public toilets of the Capitol complex. Also worth noting, Byrd is the commander of the House Chambers section of the Capitol Police, he would most certainly have been there in plain clothes on January 6, 2021.

Finally, Mr. Hansen reports Lt. Mike Byrd is not working currently, and is not staying at his residence either. And so far, the Capitol Police have neither confirmed nor denied Lt. Byrd’s involvement or non-involvement in Ashli Babbitt’s killing.

We commend Rep. Paul Gosar for demanding accountability from the Capitol Police for the killing of Ashli Babbitt. Absent a public confirmation by the authorities, or a public disclosure in the upcoming wrongful death suit filed by Ms. Babbitt’s family against the Capitol Police, there is still no official confirmation of the identity of Ms. Babbitt’s killer. Thus, it is left to Rep, Gosar and courageous independent journalists like Tayler Hansen to try to assemble the evidence and present it so the public can weigh it and each of us can make up our own minds.

The toll-free Capitol Switchboard is (1-866-220-0044) we urge CHQ readers and friends to call their Representative and Senators to demand an open, transparent and public hearing into the murder of Ashli Babbitt, including answering the question, who, if anyone, ordered the Capitol Police to fire on the January 6 protesters?
